The NORQAIN Wild ONE Gecko and a Season of Participation
Some watches mark a milestone. Others become part of the journey itself. The NORQAIN Wild ONE Gecko falls firmly into the second category.
It didn't feel like another watch added to the collection. It arrived during a season of growth—personally, professionally, and as a family—and quickly became something I reached for almost every day. Not because I felt obligated to wear it, but because it simply fit the life I was already living.
That connection began long before the watch itself. Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to build genuine relationships with the people behind NORQAIN. Those conversations, experiences, and moments of generosity have given the brand a level of meaning that extends far beyond specifications. Their team’s encouragement of Wrist & Wheel, and the people I've met along the way, are woven into what this watch represents for me.
The Wild ONE Gecko carries those stories every time I put it on.
More Than a Favorite Color
The first thing that drew me to the Gecko was, unsurprisingly, the color. Green has quietly become the defining color of this chapter of my life. It has shown up everywhere—from the plants we're growing at home to clothing choices, automotive projects, and even the direction Wrist & Wheel continues to take.
I've always liked green, but lately it has come to symbolize something much deeper: growth, renewal, stewardship, and continuity. The opportunity to become something new while remaining rooted in what matters.
The Wild ONE embraces those ideas beautifully. It doesn't communicate traditional luxury in the reserved, understated sense. Instead, it has energy. It's bright, unconventional, lightweight, and unapologetically modern. The exposed construction, vibrant accents, and technical materials make it feel alive rather than formal.
I've often found myself describing it as a watch that's less about luxury in the traditional sense and more about momentum. It represents movement rather than arrival.
That resonates with where I find myself today. I've realized I no longer need every meaningful object to prove that I've reached some destination. Some objects simply support the way I'm choosing to live.
The Wild ONE is one of those objects.
A Watch for This Season of Life
Lately, one word keeps surfacing in almost every area of my life:
Participation.
For years it often felt like I was working toward experiences that always seemed just beyond reach. Today, I'm finding myself stepping into them instead.
I'm attending the automotive events I used to admire from afar. I'm building relationships within the watch community. Wrist & Wheel is finding its identity. My family is becoming part of these experiences alongside me. Ryder, my son, is beginning to share my enthusiasm for cars and watches, and Ayla, my daughter, is growing into a world that we're intentionally creating together.
I'm no longer chasing life. I'm participating in it.
That's exactly why the Wild ONE feels so appropriate right now.
It's not a watch that asks to be protected until a special occasion. It was designed to move. It belongs just as naturally on a family weekend as it does at a concours, during a garage visit, while traveling, or on an ordinary Saturday spent outdoors with the kids.
That distinction matters. This season isn't about collecting symbols of success. It's about preparing, learning, showing up, contributing, improving, and then doing it all again.
The Gecko reflects that rhythm perfectly. It's technically serious without taking itself too seriously. It feels completely at home around children, machinery, travel, dirt roads, workshops, and long conversations with fellow enthusiasts.
More and more, I've realized that luxury isn't simply owning something rare. Luxury is having the freedom to fully participate in a life that actually means something.
An Automotive Watch Without Pretending to Be One
The Wild ONE Gecko also happens to be one of the most convincing automotive watches I've ever worn—but perhaps not for the reasons most people expect.
Many watches lean on racing stripes, tachymeters, or licensed partnerships to establish their connection with cars. The Gecko doesn't need any of that. Its automotive character comes from its engineering philosophy.
The NORTEQ carbon-composite case prioritizes strength without unnecessary weight. The protective architecture shields the movement while leaving much of its mechanical structure visible. Rubberized components, layered construction, and exceptional shock resistance all feel purpose-built rather than decorative.
It's a philosophy every automotive enthusiast immediately recognizes:
Reduce unnecessary weight.
Protect what's important.
Use advanced materials intelligently.
Let the engineering speak for itself.
Build something that's meant to be used.
Those same ideas are what drew me toward our Porsche 924S Safari project. That build isn't about creating a museum piece. It's about taking an existing machine and transforming it into something more capable, more expressive, and ultimately more enjoyable to use.
The Wild ONE shares that same mindset:
Mechanically interesting, yet incredibly wearable.
Technically advanced, yet emotionally engaging.
Luxurious, yet remarkably durable.
Bold, without sacrificing function.
Visually, it also feels perfectly at home around modern performance cars. The openworked movement recalls exposed chassis structures and suspension components. The layered case resembles engineered assemblies rather than sculpted jewelry. The bright green accents, black framework, and technical materials feel entirely natural alongside carbon fiber, Alcantara, and performance-focused interiors.
Perhaps most importantly, it avoids what I can only describe as motorsport cosplay. It doesn't imitate a dashboard or borrow credibility from an automotive logo. Its connection to cars comes from shared engineering values.
That's why it feels equally appropriate at a Porsche gathering, a Ferrari concours, a casual cars-and-coffee, a garage day with friends, or behind the wheel of the 924S Safari.
It never feels like I selected it for the occasion. It feels like the watch I was already wearing. To me, that's the definition of a truly successful automotive watch.
One Philosophy, Expressed in Different Ways
When I step back, I realize the personal meaning, my current season of life, and the Gecko's automotive character aren't separate stories at all. They're different expressions of the same idea: Participation.
Personally, the watch represents growth and becoming.
Professionally, it reminds me to continue building Wrist & Wheel through genuine relationships rather than simply chasing opportunities.
As a father, it reminds me that the best moments aren't waiting somewhere in the future—they're happening right now.
As an automotive enthusiast, it celebrates engineering designed to be driven, explored, and enjoyed rather than simply admired from behind a velvet rope.
All of those ideas reject passivity. The Wild ONE is built for motion. And I happen to be in a season of motion.
Not frantic motion… Not endless chasing…
Intentional movement. Preparing. Participating. Contributing.
Whether I'm working on the 924S Safari, attending an automotive event, traveling for Wrist & Wheel, or simply enjoying an ordinary day with my family, the watch never feels out of place.
It doesn't ask me to separate the different parts of my life. It brings them together.
Perhaps that's why the Wild ONE Gecko has become more than a colorful sports watch to me. It's become a marker of a season where the father, the builder, the enthusiast, the storyteller, and the business owner are finally beginning to feel like one integrated person. The watch simply reflects the philosophy I'm trying to live.
